Minimalist Approach to Migraine Treatment Yields Big Results

Have you suffered from a migraine before? Far from just being an inconvenience, these painful and intrusive headaches are a growing problem. Thirty-five million people in the United States suffer from the condition. Over two-thirds of that number are women. Migraine headaches often start with what is known as an aura. This is the body's way of warning you that something is about to happen. Auras encompass a wide range of symptoms – from subtle to severe. Things like a ringing in the ear, a throbbing head, and visual disturbances are some examples of what can be experienced during the aura. The issue that presents is that when you look at treatment options, there is little variety. Relief from migraines is, therefore, elusive. Certain generic options can help, but it is rare to have the condition resolved or even well controlled. Research is showing that the pharmaceuticals normally used to treat headaches can, over time, actually worsen them. In lieu of the foregoing, many doctors are looking for other options when it comes to the treatment of migraines. They are seeking to individualize the treatment in order to make it more effective. Dr. Kevin Leach of Edmonds, Washington is an upper cervical chiropractor who is also looking at this growing problem from an individual standpoint. He recognizes that migraines are normally the result of other issues. A misalignment of the neck, for instance, can cause vascular and neurological issues that can manifest as migraines. Often, slight adjustments to the Atlas bone, which [...]

Dizzying Ways that Vertigo Complicates Life

Vertigo gives a person the sensation that everything around them is spinning. The system known as the vestibular system is responsible for maintaining our balance and physical orientation. When this system malfunctions, vertigo can be experienced. Many times, this dizzying sensation is temporary. For others, it can become a chronic condition that can lead to further complications. What are some conditions that can cause vertigo? What are your treatment options if you experience vertigo or any of the other complications? The most commonly experienced form of vertigo is called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. When you move your head or neck suddenly, this can result. That sensation you feel when standing up too quickly is caused by this. However, injuries from accidents or sports can lead to this as well. Labyrinthitis is another form of vertigo where the inner ear swells. This can be triggered by infection, such as the flu or respiratory infection. This can, in turn, cause irritation in the ear leading to labyrinthitis. In its severest form, loss of hearing can occur. To learn more about the connection between head and neck injuries and vertigo download our complimentary e-book by clicking the image below: Meniere's disease also involves the inner ear. Tinnitus, building pressure, or even hearing loss can result. Finally, there is what is known as vestibular neuronitis. The vestibular nerve courses through your inner ear. This nerve signals the brain when you move. When the nerve becomes inflamed, which can happen with infection, the signals to the brain can become distorted, making you feel as though you were in motion when you are not. Suffering from any of these ailments presents with specific and tiresome challenges, especially when they are chronic. [...]

Migraine Pain: It’s all in your head?

It’s no secret that migraines cause pain, sometimes for hours or even days. There is a large population of society that suffers from migraines as high as 36 million Americans. Even worse, if you suffer from multiple migraines a month you have chronic migraines. If you are unfortunate to relate to that 36 million people, you know how devastating the effects can be not only on your health but your entire live. The truth of the matter is it’s all in your head, literally. It is well known that migraine is related to the amount of blood flow to the head, the nerves and nervous system, and how the brain is able to react to those factors. Migraines are a challenge even for the best doctors and specialists since the condition is broad in nature and each person has a unique presentation. Most people are just getting by with over the counter medications such as ibuprofen. What if you actually had the ability to influence how well that pill worked? One drug company thought so and has made headlines. One of Australia and Britain’s largest drug company was exposed for selling the same medication (a variant of ibuprofen) for a variety of conditions. The same formula was put into different branded boxes for conditions like migraines and the company has been exposed. To learn more about the connection between head and neck injuries and migraines download our complimentary e-book by clicking the image below: But what if works better because you think it will? Well one study gave headache patients a dummy pill, one group received the pill as a normal over the counter medication and the other group received the same pill branded as [...]

Vertigo, Dizziness, and Disequilibrium – A Common Connection

Feeling dizzy or being off-balance can really impact a person’s life. Something that seems to be a normal, everyday task can become difficult when you experience dizziness. Dressing, bathing, and working can be a challenge. Some 69 million people living in the USA have experienced some sort of vertigo or vestibular (relating to the ear and balance sensory) disorder symptoms. How can one type of experience with dizziness be differentiated from another kind? Here are some specific symptoms: Vertigo is the feeling that you are spinning or moving or that the environment around you is doing so. Dizziness is feeling unsteady, faint, or lightheaded, but you do not feel like you are spinning. Disequilibrium is feeling a loss of balance or unsteadiness that comes along with spatial disorientation in most cases. To learn more about the connection between head and neck injuries and vertigo download our complimentary e-book by clicking the image below: When you experience any of the above what is happening is that signals that flow from the brain to the body become disrupted. They are sending the signal that you are off-balance, even though you really are not. This information is sent through the sensory system. This system is made up of your eyes that perceive how the body is moving and where it is located, the nerves that relay messages to the brain about your position, and the inner ear that contains sensors that help in detecting gravity and if you are moving back and forth. So, what causes these to be out of balance? The Common Connection The root cause of these problems seems to lie in the upper neck area of the spinal column. If you have a slight [...]

Chronic Headaches – Providing Relief in Edmonds Washington

Headaches are bad enough if you suffer from them once in a while. However, chronic headaches and migraines are certainly debilitating. You never really know when the next one will occur, and they are difficult to treat. It is rare to find something that will treat your headaches consistently. What We Know About Migraines The cause is unknown, but what we do know can give us some clues as to how to treat migraines. A lack of oxygenation to the brain is linked to head pain. A reason for this can be connected to the upper two vertebrae (the C1 and C2). These two vertebrae are prone to having misalignments due to their positioning. If there is a misalignment, this can hinder blood flow and oxygen to the brain. It can also affect neurological function. All of these things can play a role in developing migraines and other headaches. Another similarity noted is that a number of people that have chronic headaches also have had an injury to their upper neck or head. Even minor incidences can cause a misalignment due to the instability of the area of the neck involved. A study of 101 patients that had a variety of headaches revealed that 87 of them had prior neck or head injuries. Hypertension and High Blood Pressure: Research Shows Causative Factor

If you or anyone you know has Hypertension or High Blood Pressure, this is a MUST read. Are you taking medication for High Blood Pressure? Is High Blood Pressure a concern for you? Has your doctor told you that it's not good to have High Blood Pressure? Are you tired of taking medication for High Blood Pressure? If you've tried proper exercise and diet and you still can't get your blood pressure into normal levels without medication, OR, even if you haven't tried exercise and diet and you're managing your blood pressure with medications and wish to actually get to the very likely potential cause of your high blood pressure, Here is your answer. In the video below, I review the ground breaking NUCCA study done by Dr. Marshall Dickholtz which showed an extremely strong correlation between the Chiropractic head/neck misalignment and high blood pressure. That "correlation" being the actual CAUSE of the high blood pressure. Watch to find out and find my other comments below. Link to Research Study Abstract: Click Here Again, it is CRITICAL to understand the mechanism of why the Atlas adjustment performed by Dr. Dickholtz resulted in a decrease/normalization of blood pressure.  The Atlas adjustment was not a "treatment" for high blood pressure. An example of a treatment of blood pressure is pharmaceutical intervention.  The chemicals that make up the drug administered are changing the physiology of the body that in effect cause ones blood pressure to lower.  The problem with this approach is that it's not addressing why the blood pressure is high in the first place.  We must understand that the body is incredibly intelligent and if it needs to have high blood pressure, there is a very specific reason why [...]

Knowing What to Ask Your Doctor

Knowing what to ask your Doctor It’s all about the questions you ask right? If you are a patient of mine, you know that one of the things that I stress here in my office is finding the cause of your health issues, not merely covering the symptoms.  So the best question to ask your doctor is, “I have this going on, I’m concerned about it, what is the cause and why is it happening?”  The society we have all grown up in has taught us instead to ask a very different question, “I have this going on, I’m concerned about it, how can I feel better?”  Both questions have good intentions.  Unfortunately, the answers to these different questions could drastically change your healthcare approach. A Fundamental Principle of Health

A Fundamental Principle of Health "Your body was designed to function normally, if it is not functioning normally, it is because of a deficiency or toxicity in the body." Meaning.. If there is something wrong with your health, THERE IS A CAUSE.  If you find that cause, you can become and stay healthy.  Unless, the problem has been there too long and there is permanent damage. If you adapt this principle for your personal healthcare, you will enjoy good health now and in the future. You can equate the human body to a single cell.  A single cell must have all nutrients necessary to perform all healthy functions and complete communication with the brain for vital information.  It must also be free of anything toxic that may interfere with it's healthy processes.  Any lack of nutrients, signals from the brain or presence of toxins will cause that cell to function less than 100% of its capacity. You can look at your health like a puzzle. Do you have all the pieces to make a complete puzzle? Do you know all the pieces necessary?  One of the biggest and most missed pieces missing in most peoples healthcare is a healthy spine.  Upper Cervical Chiropractic gave me my life and health back because it got to the cause of why I was unhealthy.  If you feel like you've tried everything and you are still not healthy, you most likely need an Upper Cervical Chiropractor.  Make an appointment with me today. What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a profession greatly misunderstood by the general public. There are many reasons for this, but that is not the intention of this blog entry to explain. Chiropractic is a system of adjusting the bones of the spinal column (vertebrae) in order to remove misalignments of these vertebrae to restore proper function of the Nervous System which is encapsulated and protected by these bones. It was established in 1895 and has survived despite benevolent opposition over these 100+ years, thanks to the demand of the public and those benefiting from it. Chiropractic is NOT exercises. Chiropractic is NOT massage. Chiropractic is NOT physiotherapy (TENS units/cold laser etc.) Chiropractic is NOT weight loss. Chiropractic is NOT nutritional therapy. However, unfortunately, many Chiropractors utilized these therapies in their office, further confusing patients what Chiropractic really is. It is EXTREMELY important to clarify that there is nothing wrong with the aforementioned therapies, in fact they're quite often a necessity.  The problem comes when a patient is seen by a Chiropractor, is NOT adjusted by that Chiropractor, yet has all sorts of therapies done.  Now this patient new to "Chiropractic" has a misconstrued understanding of what Chiropractic is, what a Chiropractor does, and how adjustments of their spine affects their health in a way unlike any of the aforementioned therapies. There is a huge internal political struggle happening inside the profession at this time. There are many inside the profession who are trying to change the very essence of what Chiropractic is. Its terminology, its uses, its own philosophy. I am in complete support of keeping Chiropractic's principles and lexicon. Leave questions in the comments section to clarify anything written above. There could probably be a book written [...]
