Published Research Case Study Title:

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care of a Patient with Post Concussion Syndrome, Positional Vertigo, and Headaches By Mayheu and Sweat

23 Year old Female suffering from Post Concussion Syndrome, Vertigo and Headaches, HELPED with a “Specific Chiropractic technique”. Do these symptoms sound familiar? Do you suffer from these? Do you know someone suffering from these? Watch now to understand how this approach could address these issues and could change your life.

Intro: Hi I’m Dr. Kevin Leach and today’s published research Case Study review is for you, to help you and give you answers to improve your health and get back to whatever it is that you can’t do, or can’t enjoy doing, because of these health issues.

Main Takeaway Point

I’m gonna go ahead and give you the spoiler alert now, and give you the conclusion, in case you want to skip the story and explanation of what happened.

The takeaway point, the big kahuna, main idea here is that when you suffer from a concussion, after receiving proper emergency medical care, it is absolutely critical to have your neck checked by a Specific Chiropractor for an injury that very likely could have happened during the traumatic event which caused a concussion.

How likely? It takes about 100 G’s of force to cause a concussion. It takes only around 5 G’s of force to cause a neck injury. So the likelihood of you suffering a concussion without also suffering a neck injury, is very unlikely.

************* NOW… here’s the story.

Imagine…

You’re 23 years old, you’re in your prime, then one day you step up on a stool in your kitchen to reach something high, the stool slips out and BAM! You smack your head on the counter. Woozy and light-headed you get up and decide to get checked out at the hospital. Turns out you suffered a concussion. After ruling out life threatening conditions, the medical doctors release you.

Well 5 months has gone by, but you are experiencing more severe headaches than you were before the fall at a 9/10 on a pain scale, AND Dizziness and Vertigo that you never had before your fall.

A friend refers you to a Specific Chiropractor who examines the area where your head meets your neck and finds evidence that this area has been injured. You then follow her recommendations to get this injury corrected.

Much to your delight, you quickly see your symptoms improve dramatically. Now you can study without distraction and enjoy exercising like you used to. Not only those, but your headaches are dramatically better than even before you had your concussion.

Questions

Does that sound familiar? All except for the getting better part? How did you get your concussion? What symptoms are you suffering from that you didn’t have before your concussion?

If this story even sounds remotely familiar, I’m here to tell you there’s hope. Let’s get into what happened with this patient and why she got results!

For details on the proposed scientific explanation of how this 23 year old obtained significant results, be sure to also watch my Doctor’s Review. I highly recommend you also read the actual research itself. For now let’s go through the logic and reasoning on what happened.

Explanation of Results

If you look at the timeline of symptoms (a)before the concussion, (b) Immediately after the concussion until 2 weeks after, (c) continuing for 5 months after the concussion, and (d) after receiving specific chiropractic care, we see a high likelihood of evidence for 2 cause and effect relationships. One was the concussion causing symptoms and the other was the care provided alleviating symptoms.

It was documented that for a period of 10 years prior to her concussion, she suffered with daily headaches at a 5/10 on a pain scale.

Immediately after her concussion when she was in the Emergency Room, her symptoms were Vertigo, Nausea, intense headache and throbbing neck pain on both sides. She also experienced symptoms of fatigue, irritability, insomnia, memory problems, and concentration problems, which lasted 2 weeks, that her body was able to heal with time.

However, the increased pain with her headaches and vertigo that started immediately after the concussion, lasted for 5 months,

and did not go away until AFTER receiving specific Chiropractic care. To think that her drastic improvements and the care she received were coincidental would be both illogical and ridiculous.

So we’ve established on a logical level that the care received by the patient addressed the headaches that were exacerbated and vertigo that was created from the traumatic event where she suffered a concussion.

The big question here is WHY did those symptoms improve from the specific Chiropractic care? What was the mechanism of healing that associated symptom relief and Specific Chiropractic care?

Approach

The Specific Chiropractic care, in this case, was directed at the area of the spine where the head meets the neck, also call the “Upper Cervical” area. Cervical, meaning neck. So “Upper Neck”. Now since care given in the area of the upper neck resulted in reduction of symptoms brought on by her traumatic event, would suggest that the patient not only suffered a head injury, of concussion, during her fall, but she also suffered a neck injury, which again was addressed by specific chiropractic, with symptom reduction only after care was given.

Again specific ideas on exact mechanisms of healing are reviewed in the doctors video research review.

Main Takeaway Point

Again, the takeaway point and main idea here is that when someone suffers from a concussion, after receiving proper emergency medical care, it is absolutely critical to have your neck checked by a Specific Chiropractor for an injury that very likely could have happened during the traumatic event which caused a concussion. The likelihood of you suffering a concussion without also suffering neck injury, is very unlikely.

The condition is caused by problems with the fluid in the inner ear and the vestibulocochlear nerve, meaning the brain finds it difficult to determine where the body is spatially.

Currently, there are no FDA-approved medications for the disorder, which is thought to affect more than 600,000 people in the US. However, doctors can prescribe steroidal injections to help relieve pain, but the relief only lasts for around 10-15 minutes and requires an invasive injection into the ear.

The new trial will instead rely on injecting a gel into the ear that slowly releases a steroid over the course of three months.

To learn more about the connection between head and neck injuries and vertigo download our complimentary e-book by clicking the image below:

However, due to the invasive nature of steroid injections, which can have limited effects, many patients favor a more natural treatment approach. At Progressive Chiropractic, we treat patients without surgery and help them live a normal life.

Our method treats the upper neck, offering help to suffers of the disorder through NUCCA spinal care, which focuses on the atlas (C1) vertebrae at the top of the neck. Research has shown a correlation between the atlas bone, the inner ear, and the vestibulocochlear nerve.

A study of 139 Meniere’s patients who received upper cervical chiropractic revealed a dramatic relief of symptoms. All the patients had previously suffered a neck injury – ranging in seriousness from a minor fall to major car accident. On average, the disability level decreased from 8.5/10 to 1.4/10 and some patients only required a couple of sessions to experience improvement. So if you are suffering from the symptoms of Meniere’s Disease, you should consult an upper cervical chiropractor for an examination.

This is a good question to answer before seeking treatment.

As many as 6% of doctor’s visits are the result of dizziness. This a very common condition and affects 2 in 5 people after the age of 40. It becomes even more common as we get into our later years. Dizziness can range from a brief episode to a chronic condition.

Symptoms of dizziness include:

Lightheadedness

Loss of balance

How Is Vertigo Different?

Vertigo is a false feeling that the room is spinning (or perhaps that the individual is spinning).

Additional symptoms include:

Nausea and vomiting

Balance issues

Nystagmus

Vestibular system problems are often to blame for both vertigo and dizziness, further blurring the lines between the conditions. The vestibular system includes the inner ear as well as nerves that connect the ear to the brainstem and cerebellum to receive and translate signals.

To learn more about the connection between head and neck injuries and vertigo download our complimentary e-book by clicking the image below:

How Your Neck Is Involved

The atlas and axis vertebrae at the top of the neck protect the brainstem. A misalignment here can result in symptoms like dizziness or vertigo. Such misalignments can occur in an accident or injury, even if the injury does not seem that severe.

One study involved 60 patients who were experiencing vertigo. In the study, nearly the entire group saw either complete relief or at least great improvement in their symptoms. At Progressive Chiropractic, we use the NUCCA method to realign upper cervical misalignments and provide natural treatment of vertigo for our patients.

The system known as the vestibular system is responsible for maintaining our balance and physical orientation. When this system malfunctions, vertigo can be experienced. Many times, this dizzying sensation is temporary. For others, it can become a chronic condition that can lead to further complications. What are some conditions that can cause vertigo? What are your treatment options if you experience vertigo or any of the other complications?

The most commonly experienced form of vertigo is called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. When you move your head or neck suddenly, this can result. That sensation you feel when standing up too quickly is caused by this. However, injuries from accidents or sports can lead to this as well.

Labyrinthitis is another form of vertigo where the inner ear swells. This can be triggered by infection, such as the flu or respiratory infection. This can, in turn, cause irritation in the ear leading to labyrinthitis. In its severest form, loss of hearing can occur.

Meniere’s disease also involves the inner ear. Tinnitus, building pressure, or even hearing loss can result.

Finally, there is what is known as vestibular neuronitis. The vestibular nerve courses through your inner ear. This nerve signals the brain when you move. When the nerve becomes inflamed, which can happen with infection, the signals to the brain can become distorted, making you feel as though you were in motion when you are not.

Suffering from any of these ailments presents with specific and tiresome challenges, especially when they are chronic. Dr. Kevin Leach of Edmonds, Washington is an experienced upper cervical chiropractor who can help alleviate if not resolve many vertigo issues and other conditions. The conditions listed above are normally the result of a neck injury. Through gentle aligning of the upper cervical region, Dr. Leach is able to help relieve the cause and the symptoms of vertigo.

Something that seems to be a normal, everyday task can become difficult when you experience dizziness. Dressing, bathing, and working can be a challenge. Some 69 million people living in the USA have experienced some sort of vertigo or vestibular (relating to the ear and balance sensory) disorder symptoms.

How can one type of experience with dizziness be differentiated from another kind? Here are some specific symptoms:

Vertigo is the feeling that you are spinning or moving or that the environment around you is doing so.

Dizziness is feeling unsteady, faint, or lightheaded, but you do not feel like you are spinning.

Disequilibrium is feeling a loss of balance or unsteadiness that comes along with spatial disorientation in most cases.

To learn more about the connection between head and neck injuries and vertigo download our complimentary e-book by clicking the image below:

When you experience any of the above what is happening is that signals that flow from the brain to the body become disrupted. They are sending the signal that you are off-balance, even though you really are not. This information is sent through the sensory system. This system is made up of your eyes that perceive how the body is moving and where it is located, the nerves that relay messages to the brain about your position, and the inner ear that contains sensors that help in detecting gravity and if you are moving back and forth. So, what causes these to be out of balance?

The Common Connection

The root cause of these problems seems to lie in the upper neck area of the spinal column. If you have a slight misalignment there, it can create this feeling of being off balance. By consulting Dr. Kevin Leach of Edmonds, Washington, who is a specially trained upper cervical chiropractor, you can begin to find some relief. Dr. Leach can detect the misalignment that is creating your problem and gently and effectively correct it.

A study was perform with 60 patients that were suffering from vertigo. In as little as one month 100% of them saw improvement, and in some cases complete recovery, when being treated by an upper cervical chiropractor. It is a great place to start to resolve your dizziness problems. Contact Dr. Leach today, and begin to regain your life!

Meniere’s Disease – Your Solution

This blog post is about evidence in research showing how Upper Cervical(Neck) Chiropractic care is highly likely to be the answer you’ve been looking for. You need to get to the root cause of your Meniere’s Disease.

If you have this debilitating condition, you owe it to yourself to be evaluated by an Upper Cervical Chiropractor. Read this post and call me for a Complimentary Consultation. 425-673-2190

If you haven’t read my following blogs, I highly recommend them. This will help you to further understand your Meniere’s Disease:

A Fundamental Principle of Health

Knowing what to ask your Doctor

The research I chose to review is one of several studies showing how Upper Cervical Chiropractic care dramatically helps those who’ve been diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease. This study is done by Upper Cervical Chiropractor, Dr. Michael Burcon, who’s been involved with many of the Meniere’s Disease research studies.

Below are key points in summary of the paper.

Upper Cervical Specific Protocol and Results for 139 Patients with Medically Diagnosed Meniere’s Disease

The following results were important outcomes of the study:

Vertigo decreased in severity from an average of 8.5 down to 1.4

136 out of 139 patients experienced an absence or dramatic reduction of symptoms

Many patients noticed an improvement before they left the office after their first visit

Two years after initiation of care, 88 out of 139 patients reported a 0 or 1 (scale from 0-10) for vertigo, dizziness and lack of balance

The explanation of why these patients got great results is rather simple.

The nerve function that controls the inner ear (where the symptoms of Meniere’s Disease are located) comes from the area where the head meets the neck. That is the area where Upper Cervical Chiropractors correct.

An upper neck injury, which most people have at some point in their life must be corrected, or it will eventually cause dysfunction in the body. Upper Cervical Chiropractors correct this injury as much as possible, no matter how old the injury is, which restores normal function, and thus the patient will get relief of symptoms.

I emphasize that it restores normal function, it does not treat, cure or cover any of the symptoms.

Here is a link to the study: 139 Patients with Meniere’s Disease

A good friend and colleague of mine, fellow NUCCA Chiropractor Dr. Jonathon Chung out of Florida wrote a great blog post about Meniere’s Disease you can see, here.

If you suffer from the debilitating condition of Meniere’s Disease, or if you have Vertigo, Ringing in the Ears, Dizziness, there is hope! If you know someone who has any of these, pass this information on, it could change their life.

Leave a comment or question about Meniere’s Disease!
